~*~You Don't Love Me!!~*~

How many times have you heard
that phrase from your child?

And how many times have you,as a parent,
resisted the urge to tell them how much?

Someday, when my children are old enough
to understand, the logic that motivates Mothers,
I hope to tell them~~

I loved you enough to bug you about where you were going,
with whom and what time you would be home,

I even loved you enough to be silent, most of the time,
and let you discover for yourself that your hand=picked
friend was a creep.

And it was even love when I made you return the candy
bar, with a bite out of it,to the store and confess,
"I stole this."

And,I loved you enough to stand over you
for two hours while you cleaned your room,
a job that would have taken me fifteen minutes.

I also learned that it was love that let me admit
when I was wrong and ask for your forgiveness.

And I loved you enough to let you see
anger, disappointment, disgust and tears in my eyes.

And it was because I loved you enough that I didn't
make excuses for your lack of respect or bad manners
and let you assume the responsibility of your own
actions at 6 or 16.

And now I love you enough to let you
stumble,fall,hurt and fail.

And I continue to love you enough to accept
you for who you are and not what I wanted you to be.

And because of my unconditional love for you
I'm shoving you off my lap, letting go of your hand,
not listening to your pleas and demands~~
so you have to stand alone.

But most of all,I loved you enough to say "NO"
when you hated me for it.And that in itself
was the hardest part of all.

Those of us,who have gotten our children grown, know all about the verses above. One day our children will also know, for it seems to be a cycle that familes experience.

It is extremely hard to see your child, whether little or grown heading for a "fall" and be helpless to prevent it.If they survive, they will have learned just one more of life's little lessons~~~~~"Mama knew what she was talking about!!!" God Bless them all!!
